Built as an inn in 1632, it was originally called ‘The Lions Paw’ It changed to ‘Bears Paw Hotel and Posting House’ when a post office room was added in the 18th century and later to ‘Bears Paw and Railway Hotel’ with the arrival of the railway around 1850. Now known simply as ‘The Bears Paw’ it is a popular local public house.
